Power Outage Due to Extreme Cold Weather
An extreme cold front moved through southeast Oklahoma beginning Friday, January 6, and through the weekend dropping temperatures well below freezing. Unfortunately this cold front affected electric service for those members in Hochatown.
The outage was caused by the significant temperature drop below freezing that produced an increased load to our substation, which caused an overload on many of our fuses throughout the area as soon as power was restored. Choctaw Electric and Western Farmers worked together to resolve the outage and restore power.
Because of the economic growth in Hochatown, Choctaw Electric’s engineering department and Western Farmers has scheduled an upgrade for this year. Until the upgrade takes place we are working diligently to prevent this type of occurrence happening again.
We would like to thank those who were affected by the outage for their patience.

(Hugo), OKLA. - We at Choctaw Electric Cooperative express our gratitude to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, local District attorneys, the Attorney General’s office and the Governor for their leadership in prosecuting cases of alleged criminal wrong doing. Everyone at Choctaw Electric Cooperative strongly condemns the criminal wrongdoing alleged in the indictment handed down against a former employee Terry Matlock. We emphasize assurance to our members that we are committed to operating with the highest ethical standards and business practices.
“Member democratic Control” is a founding principle of the electric cooperative business model established nearly 80 years ago. It still works today. All of us at CEC deeply appreciate our members who devoted their time and effort to expose wrongdoing. We are a member driven organization. Choctaw Electric Cooperative members took action and achieved results for their cooperative. We work for our members and we encourage member involvement.
Our Board of Trustees, management, and employees are dedicated to providing safe, affordable, and reliable electricity to our members.
